A good hair day looks different for everybody. Some might strive for the perfect bouncy blowout, while others consider shiny, springy ringlets a great success. Waking up dandruff-free might make one person’s morning, whereas the perfect slicked-back ponytail for a night out may warrant celebration for another. In the pursuit of the top hair products of the year for Allure’s 2025 Best of Beauty Awards, our editors experienced a lot of good hair days, but also quite a few not-so-good ones as we made our way through hundreds of shampoos and texturizing sprays, curl creams and conditioners, scalp serums and edge stylers.

For every experience with greasy roots or crispy curls, however, we discovered some truly incredible gems—46 of them to be exact—that cater to all hair types and keep hair health top of mind. Nearly all of them aim to strengthen your strands and coddle your scalp in addition to their primary benefit, whether that’s creating texture, adding color, or boosting shine: Good Dye Young DYEposit acts as both semipermanent hair color and a conditioning mask; Olaplex No.10 Bond Shaper Curl Defining Gel shapes curls and repairs broken disulfide bonds simultaneously; and Ceremonia Dry Shampoo con Arrowroot eradicates oil while still maintaining the scalp’s microbiome. These are just a few examples.

Comb through the list of Best of Beauty Hair winners and you’re certain to find something new to add to your routine. And when you do, regardless of how you like to wear your hair, every day going forward will be a good one.

    $12 $9 (25% off)

    Amazon (Shampoo)

    $12 $9 (25% off)

    Amazon (Conditioner)

Why it won: John Frieda UltraFiller+ Shampoo and Conditioner gently cleanse and soften limp strands while staying weightless thanks to the featherlight hydrator panthenol that’s featured in both formulas. But it’s biotin and hyaluronic acid that get to the root of the situation, strengthening and hydrating hair so it’s healthier, more resilient—and fuller—overall.

Tester feedback from deputy beauty director Elizabeth Siegel

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This shampoo and conditioner do everything I want—making my fine, limp hair look deceptively fuller, shinier, and softer—without anything I don't want, like a strong perfume-y scent.” —Elizabeth Siegel, deputy beauty director

Best Shampoo & Conditioner for Dry Hair: Herbal Essences Honey Daily Moisture Shampoo & ConditionerHerbal Essences Honey Daily Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner two green bottles of shampoo and conditioner on light gray background with red Allure Best of Beauty seal in the top right corner

Why It Won: You can make excuses for your parched hair—your age, your parents, your proclivity for your flatiron—or you can take action by adding Herbal Essences Honey Daily Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner to your shower. The camellia oil in the nourishing duo closely mimics the natural oils found on healthy hair and helps replenish it every time you decide to take your “everything shower.”

Best Shampoo & Conditioner for Damaged Hair: Kérastase Première Bain Décalcifiant Réparateur and Première Fondant Fluidité RéparateurKérastase Première Bain Décalcifiant Réparateur and Première Fondant Fluidité Réparateur white and silver bottle and tube of shampoo and conditioner on light gray background with red Allure Best of Beauty seal in the top right corner

    $50

    Amazon (Conditioner)

Why It Won: Calcium might be good for your bones, but not for your hair when it’s coming out of your showerhead. Too much can form a film around the cuticle, which can actually prevent reparative ingredients from doing their job. Kérastase Première Bain Décalcifiant Réparateur and Première Fondant Fluidité Réparateur tackle the issue with citric acid to remove the calcium buildup from hard water, and then hand it off to glycine, a humectant that works overtime to soften the hair and make it stronger and more elastic.

Tester feedback from contributing writer Sophia Panych

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“I know this sounds crazy—and maybe I imagined it—but you can feel this shampoo and conditioner working as you’re in the shower. Your hair starts to feel silkier and less flimsy as you slide your comb through it, which I do in the shower as I rinse out conditioner. But it’s really how your hair looks after a couple of weeks of using this duo where you notice a visible change. My frayed ends started to look polished, and the broken bits along my hairline stopped being so fuzzy after blow-drying them.” — Sophia Panych, contributing writer

It's perfect to me: matte enough to tamp down oily sheens but not so much that it dries my hair out; heavy enough to weigh down flyaways and keep them down for hours on end but not enough to flatten out volume; soft and pliable enough to work through hair easily but grippy enough to keep everything in its place.” —Nicola Dall’Asen, senior news editor

How does Allure choose the best products for Best of Beauty Hair?

To determine the Best of Beauty Hair winners, Allure editors and contributors test thousands of hair-care and styling products over many months, evaluating each formula for its ingredients, efficacy, texture, packaging, fragrance (when relevant), and performance.

Testing hair-care products is different from categories like makeup, body-care, and fragrance. There are products that can be used on different textures, lengths, curl patterns, thicknesses, colors (natural and unnatural), and needs, and in those cases we call on several editors with different hair types to gauge if those formulas do indeed work for everyone.

Often, though, hair products are created with specific consumers in mind. Sometimes this means a product is formulated to address a particular concern (dandruff, breakage, brittleness) or to work most effectively for a specific hair type (4C curls, wavy hair, gray hair). In these cases we enlist testers who represent our readers most likely to use that product so we can best evaluate the formula and determine if it is truly award-winning.

Are Best of Beauty Hair winners safe for color-treated or damaged hair?

Yes. Many of the Best of Beauty Hair winners are color-safe and/or designed to repair and strengthen damaged strands. You’ll find bond-building treatments, deep-conditioning masks, nourishing glosses, and gentle shampoos that help maintain vibrancy, reduce breakage, and support chemically processed or over-styled hair.

Do these products work for all hair types and textures?

The products spotlighted in the Best of Beauty Hair category address the full spectrum of textures and concerns. This means that whether your hair is curly, coily, coarse, straight, wavy, thinning, thick, or color-treated, you’ll find an award-winning product that can upgrade and enhance your existing routine.

Are there affordable or salon-quality hair-care products featured in Best of Beauty?

Yes. The winners span a full spectrum of price points, from budget-friendly staples available at the drugstore (L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray, for instance) to premium products from renowned hairstylists (looking at you, Chris McMillan Styling Balm). For even more options, you can find our favorite products of the year under $24 in our list of Steals winners and explore the most impressive indulgent beauty buys of 2025 in our Splurges winners.

What kinds of hair-care products are included in the Best of Beauty Awards?

This category, which features 46 products total, encompasses almost every kind of hair-care and styling product imaginable. This means the list of winners includes a broad range of options, such as clarifying shampoo, edge control, curl cream, texturizing spray, volumizing mousse, leave-in conditioner, dry shampoo, root touch-ups, and much, much more.

If you’ve ever battled acne, you know the struggle: endless derm appointments, meds that come and go, and concealers that either cake or highlight every bump—it’s exhausting. I still get the occasional breakout, but one $9 upgrade has drastically improved my bumpy-textured skin: the PanOxyl Acne Treatment Bar, which also happens to be a 2025 Allure Best of Beauty winner.

We love drugstore products as much as the next person, but how exactly is something so affordable so…effective? Well, Kristina Collins, MD, a dermatologist based in Austin, broke it down for me. Packed with the maximum over-the-counter dose of benzoyl peroxide (10%), an acne-fighting powerhouse that kills bacteria, unclogs pores, and reduces inflammation, this sudsy face and body bar is “highly effective for both inflammatory acne (red pimples) and comedonal acne (blackheads and whiteheads),” says Dr. Collins. Aside from benzoyl peroxide, glycerin softens and plumps the skin by attracting moisture. "[Glycerin] also contains cleansing and lathering agents that help distribute the active ingredient [benzoyl peroxide] evenly across the skin,” she says.

However, the crowning feature of this simple-but-mighty cleanser? The obvious! “What makes this product unique is that it comes in a convenient bar format, making it easy to use on both the face and larger body areas like the chest and back,” says Dr. Collins. In fact, the PanOxyl Acne Treatment Bar won Best Body Acne Bar this year, proving it punches above most acne products that are only designated for the face. “It’s especially helpful for athletes or those who sweat frequently, since sweat and friction can trigger breakouts,” Dr. Collins adds.

Allure commerce writer Lily Wohlner applying the PanOxyl Acne Treatment Bar

Wohlner getting the bar foamy before use

As far as my acne goes, it’s less about angry, red zits and more about texture—tiny bumps, clogged pores, the sneaky kind that makes skin look rough when light hits skin. My derm tells me the fix is equal parts bacteria-killing power players (looking at you, benzoyl peroxide) and exfoliants to keep dead skin from building up. The problem? Most formulas in this category leave my already-finicky combination skin—a.k.a., dry at baseline, but shiny by midday—feeling bone-dry, which means I end up piling on layers of moisturizer to compensate.

Here’s the shocker: This bar delivers on its non-drying claims. After just a few uses, I had that fresh, post-facial glow, while staying bouncy, thanks to the glycerin. However, if you have super dry skin, New York City board-certified dermatologist Jessica Krant, MD points out that high concentrations of benzoyl peroxide (anything above 5%) can be too stripping, so it’s best to ease in or try a lower strength if you’re sensitive.

As far as use goes, the brand suggests cleansing as usual before using the bar as a second cleanse to kill the acne-causing oils and bacteria and offer deeper exfoliation. Work it into your hands with water until it’s foamy, spread the lather across your face in circular motions, rinse, and pat dry. Start with once daily, and if your skin can handle it, gradually increase to two or three times per week.

Wohlner immediatley after using the PanOxyl Acne Treatment Bar

    Lily Wohlner

I followed the instructions exactly, using the bar after my daily gel cleanser, SkinCeuticals’ Simply Clean Cleanser. I lathered it up and applied it everywhere, concentrating on my forehead and cheeks where I tend to get texture. After rinsing, I followed with my go-to hydrating and brightening serum and a heavier moisturizer to replenish any of the moisture loss from the benzoyl peroxide. I also tested it on my chest post-spin class (prime acne territory) and never experienced a breakout. Quick heads-up: The peroxide can bleach dark towels, so stick to light-colored ones unless you want an accidental tie-dye moment.

After a few weeks of using this bar, I’m honestly impressed. My skin looks so much smoother with less texture and has that just-left-a-facial glow that lasts all day. I don’t need it every night because it could be too drying, but I can see myself reaching for it three to four times a week to use on my face and body, especially after a full day of wearing makeup or a sweaty workout. It gives that extra-deep clean that dives into your pores and leaves skin feeling fresh.

From the glam-est of the glam to the barest of the bare, no matter your makeup vibe, we bet there’s some sort of lip product stashed in your bag. Maybe it’s a basic balm, or a classic lipstick with the bullet worn down to a nub. Perhaps it’s the latest lip oil or the liner-gloss combo that’s taken ages to perfect. Whatever lip product you like to keep on you at all times, our editors have spent months swiping on hundreds of them to get to the 18 superstars in this year’s Best of Beauty Awards Lips category.

“Lips” is probably the easiest beauty category to test. Unlike shampoos or body washes or a bikini-line trimmer, you can try them anytime, anywhere. And unlike eye makeup or hot tools, you don’t need a blank canvas or a ton of concentration to do so. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to whittle the list down. Oh, no. To earn Allure’s famous lipstick-red seal, a product has to be truly exceptional, so it took months of applying lip products at our desks (and everywhere else, basically) to identify 18 that stand out among the rest.

There’s the $10 lipstick with hundreds of thousands of TikTok devotees (for good reason); the crayon that gives you the control of a professional makeup artist; the balm that’s like a barrier cream for your mouth; the plumping gloss that will have friends asking for your dermatologist’s phone number. These formulas check all of our boxes—and then add boxes we didn’t know we needed. So prepare to be impressed—and to make room in your purse for the best lip products of the year.

“This lipstick punches well above its price point. I won't name names, but it does remind me quite a bit of a much fancier glossy balm that I also love dearly. “Look, I love lipstick, but I can’t say I always look forward to wearing it, knowing how it’s going to look and feel a few hours after I apply it. This is especially the case for satin formulas, which move around more than most. That’s not the case with this unbelievable formula. It feels so plush and hydrating, I actually can’t wait to put it on. And because it’s inspired by liquid lipstick formulas, you don't have to worry about it sliding off your lips every time you take a sip of water or have a snack.” —Sophia Panych, contributing writer

It aces all our lip gloss requirements: super moisturizing (thanks to hyaluronic acid), comfortable to wear (that’s down to the trio of seed oils—camellia, cotton, and meadowfoam flowers), easy to apply (the wave-shaped, doe-foot applicator hugs the curves of your lips exactly), and available in lots of flattering shades (Fiery Love, a warm red, and Wherever Walnut, a taupe rose, were a couple of tester faves). The formula gets bonus points for not feeling sticky, not traveling or feathering, and smoothing out lip lines for a plump, pouty effect.

Tester feedback from content director Kara McGrath

“For someone with dry lips (and cheeks, and hair, and cuticles…you get the point), I’m always in pursuit of something thick and emollient. This treatment is exactly that. Why It Won: The four shades of the Glow Recipe Glass Balm Lip Treatment are inspired by Bingsoo, a popular South Korean dessert made from shaved ice and topped with fruit or sweetened red beans. But you know what’s even sweeter? The fact that this balm’s blend of hyaluronic microspheres, glycerin, and fruit extracts treats lips to long-lasting, intense levels of moisture.

Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“Lip color inspired by dessert? Say less. My lip lines are annoyingly noticeable, and one swipe of this rich formula evens them out. Strawberry Bingsoo, a sheer pinky-red that is the least natural-lip-leaning, is my favorite. She’s too cute, like a lighter, glossier version of my favorite lip tints. How does Allure test lipsticks, glosses, oils, and balms for Best of Beauty?

For our Best of Beauty Lips winners, we consider each product's performance across the following categories: ingredients and efficacy, inclusivity, packaging, and user experience (including texture and wear). We test hundreds of lip products on a wide range of skin tones and types, makeup preferences, and personal routines. Our large group of testers—editors, top industry professionals, and other experts—wear the products through real-world conditions like long days, late dinners, important meetings, and intense weather to evaluate performance, pigment payoff, longevity, and how easy the products are to both apply and remove.

Are there long-wear or transfer-proof lipsticks in the Best of Beauty winners?

Yes. Many of the Best of Beauty Lips winners are designed to be long-lasting. This includes traditional lipsticks, like the Dior Rouge Dior On Stage lipstick, chubby lip crayons like the Pat McGrath Labs Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil, stains such as Violette_FR Lip Nectar, and lip liners like the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Stain Liner. When awarding long-wear formulas, we look for products that stay put without cracking, drying, or fading unevenly.

Do the winning lip products work for dry lips?

Absolutely. Many of the Best of Beauty Lips winners are infused with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, shea butter, vitamin E, and nourishing plant extract oils. You'll find soothing lip balms, tinted treatments, and moisturizing glosses that offer both comfort and color. If your skin is very sensitive or reactive, we suggest checking out our Best of Beauty Sensitive Skin category, which is full of options for prickly complexions.

What kinds of lip products are included in the Best of Beauty Awards?

The Best of Beauty Lips category is composed of almost any kind of lip product you can imagine. We have classic lipsticks (matte, sheer, and cream), glosses, stains, liners, and oils, plus balms and scrubs that help care for your lips. Whether you want a statement-red lip that lasts all night or a sheer tinted gloss that doubles as a treatment, you’ll find exceptional, high-performing products in all formats and finishes.

Are there lip products that work for deeper skin tones or neutral undertones?

Yes. Inclusivity is a key criterion for our Best of Beauty Lips category. Before reviewing any makeup product at Allure, we make sure the brand offers a wide shade range that represents consumers of all skin tones and undertones. Our large base of Best of Beauty testers ensures that we cover different skin tones, genders, and ages, so you can be confident that each winner in this category offers something for everyone.

All products featured on Allure are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links.

Your base is the foundation of any makeup look, but in the year 2025, that doesn’t have to include actual foundation—at least not in the traditional sense. Gone is the time when your only options were liquid or powder, full or light coverage. Scan today’s beauty shelves and you’ll find formulas in a wide variety of finishes and opacities; skin tints and tinted moisturizers; concealers in every conceivable texture and format. And from there you have even more brilliant (or matte) options, depending on how you prefer to bronze, sculpt, blush, and set your complexion. When selecting the 2025 Allure Best of Beauty winners in the Base category, we chose products that not only reflect this diversity of options, they also offer a diverse selection of shades—a nonnegotiable parameter for any makeup formula we consider for our awards.

Over a 10-month period, our editors—all with vastly different preferences for coverage, finish, and format—buffed and blended (and swept and stippled) their way through about 650 submissions. The buffing and blending (and sweeping and stippling) didn’t stop until they had narrowed down the field to 11 subcategories and 28 winners worthy of the Best of Beauty seal.

There’s a primer that doubles as a moisturizer and a concealer that mimics the tone and texture of your skin. There are bold new innovations, like a setting spray that’s basically a finishing powder in a bottle, and a three-in-one foundation stick that also hydrates and primes. You’ll spot some all-time classics (welcome back, Nars The Multiple!), a couple viral hits, a few makeup artist favorites (including some products made by makeup artists), and several new additions to iconic complexion franchises from the likes of Armani Beauty and Estée Lauder.

Regardless of whether this is a product's first win or fifth, though, these champions are sure to have you covered, be that matte or dewy, blushed or bronzed, powdered or setting-sprayed, or just a few dots of concealer to get you out the door.

Even if we do use foundation, we always go back to the Super Gel, using the pearlescent fluid as a highlighter or mixing it into face and body creams for skin that glistens from head to toe.

Tester feedback from senior art director Ingrid Fowler

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This primer gives a lovely, dewy glow, but it’s subtle enough that you can use it all over your face. It's a great base and mixes well with other makeup, which is often tricky with illuminating products. When I just want a bronzy, glow-from-within look without doing a full face of makeup, I wear this on its own.” —Ingrid Fowler, senior art director

Commerce editor Sarah Han applies the Tower 28 GetSet Matte Powder Blush.

Why It Won: Makeup artists often recommend applying a layer of translucent setting powder before powder blush to keep the oils in your skin care and foundation from breaking down the color. Tower 28 had an aha moment when the brand decided to take that advice and create GetSet Matte Powder Blush, which combines the two into one long-wear formula. Many of the ingredients mimic the brand’s GetSet Pressed Powder, making it sweatproof (hydrophobic silica does the gentle repelling) and transfer-proof (lauroyl lysine keeps things grippy). We can attest that all seven core shades (pinks, peaches, and berries) have serious staying power.

Why It Won: A strobe, by definition, is a light that quickly flashes on and off. MAC took that concept of intense reflectivity and rendered it in blush form with the Strobe Beam Liquid Blush. The water-based formula is featherlight but packed with color and light-reflecting pigments that leave cheeks flushed and flickering. Why It Won: The original multitasker, a single Nars The Multiple can do the work of an entire makeup bag—a revolutionary concept when François Nars invented this game-changer in 1996. Inspired by the act of stripping things back and applying the same lipstick on eyes, cheeks, and lips, the makeup artist created a unique cream-to-powder stick that could be applied to every facial feature, whether you’re sculpting, highlighting, or adding a wash of color. Nearly three decades later, a reformulation has reignited our obsession with this does-it-all stick—now more weightless, more blendable, and more pigmented than ever before.

Micropearls impart an ethereal luminosity wherever you apply the formula, and the lip gloss-like doe foot makes it easy to spread the pigment across cheekbones or to pinpoint smaller areas, such as the Cupid’s bow and inner corners of the eyes.

I gently dab my brush on my skin, moving slowly around my face and picking up more powder halfway through. A little goes a long way, so it's rare that I need to pour more product, but I'll double up on a second layer if it's really hot or humid that day.” —Kassidy Silva, social director

Why It Won: First came Danessa Myricks’ best-selling—and Best of Beauty Breakthrough award winner—Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder, a silky balm that acts like a blurring powder. Now there’s the new Yummy Skin Liquid Blurring Balm Mattifying Setting Spray, a weightless setting spray that acts like a blurring and mattifying powder. Like the rest of the Yummy Skin line, the formula features Upsalite technology, which is a mixture of magnesium carbonate, great for soaking up oils, and marine algae, for obscuring pores. Shake the bottle to mix the ingredients, and when they hit your skin in the finest mist, they soak up oil like a sponge and make you forget what your pores looked like before.

“I used this setting spray after putting on concealer and the brand’s balm powder, and I love that the spray immediately dried down without settling into any lines or drying out my skin. I definitely found it lived up to its promise of absorbing oil throughout the day—it kept my complexion naturally matte all day long.” —Amber Venerable, creative director

Commerce editor Sarah Han applies the TIRTIR Mask Fit Makeup Fixer.

    Sarah Han

Why It Won: You’d think a sweatproof setting spray that promises to protect your makeup against humidity and friction would feel awful on your face. Not the case with the Korean-made TIRTIR Mask Fit Makeup Fixer, which is gentle on skin (even sensitive types) but tough on keeping pigments in place. The ultrafine mist stays flexible and doesn’t undo all the work you did to get your skin glowing, then stops oil and shine from breaking through as the day goes on and on…and on.

Tester feedback from beauty closet associate Edward Horgan

"This setting spray mastered the art of a fine mist without the typical chemical scent found in many competitors. It locks makeup in with a soft, long-lasting finish and is genuinely enjoyable to use." —Edward Horgan, beauty closet associate

How does Allure test foundation, concealer, and other base makeup products?

For our Best of Beauty Base winners, we consider each product's performance in the following categories: ingredients and efficacy, packaging, durability, and product experience (including texture and wear). We test hundreds of base products across skin tones, types, and textures, from oily to dry, mature to acne-prone (or mature and acne-prone). Our editors and contributors also test each entry through long days, intense heat and humidity, and unforgiving, high-definition lighting to assess performance in every kind of situation. The final winners have been chosen based on testers’ experience with things like blendability, coverage, finish, wear time, and how well they hold up in real life.

Are these Best of Beauty Base winners good for sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Yes. Some of the award-winning Base formulas are noncomedogenic, fragrance-free, and free of ingredients like talc. You'll find a lightweight foundation full of good-for-your-skin ingredients that doesn't clog our pores, a highlighter that also hydrates, and a powder blush that stays put without irritation or settling into our fine lines.

Do Best of Beauty winners include long-wear or transfer-resistant foundations?

Absolutely. We test Base products’ longevity under real-life conditions, including commuting, working out, and long events like weddings and photo shoots. Some of the winners are formulated to last all day without separating, caking, or fading. In the case of setting powders and sprays, these winners extend the wear of your makeup by absorbing excess oil and locking the rest of your base products in place.

What types of products are included in the Base category?

The Best of Beauty Base category features primers, foundations, concealers, skin tints, blushes, bronzers, highlighters, and setting products like powders and sprays, all in different textures (cream, powder, liquid) and finishes (matte, dewy, and natural).

Are there good options for dry, oily, or combination skin types?

Yes. We have ensured that the Best of Beauty Base winners cater to every skin type and texture. This group includes a mattifying primer and a long-wear foundation for acne-prone skin; a hydrating skin tint and a creamy concealer for dry skin; and products that are neither too dewy nor too matte for people who prefer a natural-looking finish. Our winners also span the coverage spectrum, so there’s something for everyone, whether you prefer your base makeup to be full coverage or barely there.

The supple leather of a Birkin bag and the waxy wood of a surfboard. A breezy walk down the boardwalk and an open-air dinner in Indonesia. Indulgent treats of mochi, matcha, and raspberry ripple ice cream. Welcome to this year’s Best of Beauty winners in the Scent category, a list that includes nine genre-defining fragrances, a solid perfume, two body mists, one delicious-smelling hair mist, two oils, and four home aromas.

At Allure, we know there's no easy way to navigate the search for the perfect fragrance, particularly in our pursuit of naming the very best scents of the year. The most subjective of all the beauty categories, fragrance is incredibly tricky to judge—bound up in biases (not to mention allergies), personal memories, and cultural preferences. You’ll never be able to find one perfume that appeals to everyone, but we feel confident the scents we selected this year all represent something exceptional in their category.

That greatness includes a whiplash-inducing rose scent and a musky eau de parfum that brings an unexpected accord to the mix. It’s an enigmatic herbaceous fragrance inspired by the deep, dark depths of the ocean, and also a hyperrealistic candle that smells like you sliced into a tomato. It’s a solid perfume that moisturizes the skin and a home fragrance that neutralizes even the most pungent odors in your home. So what are these scents that left our testers (uncharacteristically) speechless and in full agreement? Keep scrolling.

Senior director of audience development Lexi Herrick applies the Phlur Rose Whip.

Why It Won: Phlur Rose Whip transforms the most demure of all florals—the rose—into a provocative bouquet, bringing out the classic note’s darker, velvety facets. An initial jolt of spicy pink pepper dissipates to reveal a rose dripping in honeyed, ambery sweetness, while its leathery base adds strength, dimension, and something a little bit naughty to this fruity-floral triumph of a scent.

    Neiman Marcus

Why It Won: Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche talked about gazing into the abyss. Perfumer Daphné Bugey imagined how it smells. A fragrance that defies categorization, L’Artisan Parfumeur Abyssae 33 is inspired by the darkest depths of the ocean, blending rose, eucalyptus, vetiver, and blonde woods to create a scent that swims the olfactive line between green and woody, floral, and fougère. At first spritz, the eau de parfum is bracing and herbaceous, but as you float on through your day, the expansive scent settles into something much more calming, intimate, and altogether mysterious.

Why It Won: The Posh-est Spice Girl created the prettiest perfume for work days, date nights, and every event or occasion in between. Victoria Beckham Beauty’s 21:50 Rêverie Eau de Parfum is inspired by an actual date night between the Beckhams over 20 years ago—an outdoor dinner in a rainforest in Java, Indonesia, surrounded by rice fields and tea lights. Capturing that sexy-but-outdoorsy moment, 21:50 Rêverie is a woody, subtly sweet fragrance that oozes warmth, with raw vanilla heightened by a tobacco leaf top note and juicy, bitter plum heart.

Tester feedback from head of video Natalie Campbell

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“Rêverie Eau de Parfum hits multiple olfactive categories at once; it’s musky, earthy, slightly sweet, all without being overbearing. It's a very complex scent—I love the hints of tobacco—and I enjoy how it wears on the skin throughout the day.” —Natalie Campbell, head of video

    Best Earthy Fragrance

    Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum

    $113

    Nordstrom

Why It Won: A modern-day chypre, everything about Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum is elegant and enigmatic. An ingredient called miracle berry at the top makes bitter flavors taste sweet. The rare butterfly lily, native to Madagascar, has never before been used in a feminine fragrance. The toasted oakwood at the base smells more like rum than humid earth. Their combination results in an ever-shifting fragrance that’s as smooth and sensual as the exquisite leather used in the house’s Birkin bags, yet with an inexplicable and irresistible tartness that has you constantly coming back for another whiff.

Tester feedback from senior beauty editor Jesa Marie Calaor

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“She smells expensive! Commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann and I—unbeknownst to each other—both described Barénia Eau de Parfum as smelling like the inside of a designer bag. It's bright, woody, and melds with your own skin scent for a vibe that's increasingly intimate as you wear it throughout the day.” —Jesa Marie Calaor, senior beauty editor

    Sephora

    $90

    Dedcool

Why It Won: An extension of the brand’s category-defining Milk fragrance, Dedcool Mochi Milk Fragrance is more whipped than creamy (thanks to marshmallow and sweetened rice milk), more sparkly than syrupy (that would be the peach nectar), and with a base more reminiscent of a skin scent. The result is an edible-inspired juice that smells less overtly saccharine and more like the semisweet treat it’s named after

Tester feedback from associate beauty director Sarah Kinonen

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“I’ve always said I’m not a fan of gourmand fragrances, they’re much too sugary and cloying for my taste. But I am a fan of Dedcool, and its latest scent has made a liar out of me. Mochi Milk Fragrance is a very mature take on the classically sweet scent family—and now, one of my new favorite perfumes.” —Sarah Kinonen, associate beauty director

Why It Won: Named for the nostalgic ice cream flavor, Jo Malone London Raspberry Ripple is a mouthwatering swirl of tangy red currant, juicy raspberry, and milky white musk that smells both delightfully tart and deliciously creamy—a sophisticated contrast that stays close to your skin and lingers there for hours. And while the perfume brings to mind a quintessential summer treat, the musky warmth makes this a satisfying spritz all year-round.

Tester feedback from creative director Amber Venerable

    $89

    Sephora

Why It Won: Maison Margiela Fragrances Replica Beach Walk Eau de Toilette is a beautifully soft scent that changes dramatically as it settles into your skin. It opens warm and coconut-y, with a zing of lemon that's bright like the sun. As the fragrance dries down, all the sparkle and hard-core coconut evaporate. What's left is a milky, musky scent evocative of sandy skin and salty ocean air.

Tester feedback from senior copy manager Leslie Lipton

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This scent smells like a breezy walk on the sand and is light yet long-lasting. I’m totally obsessed, and I'm not the only one. I was having oral surgery and the assistant turned to me and asked, ‘Before I put you under, what perfume are you wearing?’” —Leslie Lipton, senior copy manager

    Best Musk Fragrance

Penhaligon's A Kiss of Bliss Eau de Parfum

    $205

    Nordstrom

    $310

    Saks Fifth Avenue

Why It Won: When talking about musk-centric perfumes, most fragrance fans lump them into two categories: powdery musks (think milky, creamy, and slightly sweet) and skin-scent musks (your body chemistry but better vibe). What makes Penhaligon’s A Kiss of Bliss Eau de Parfum so special is that it somehow combines the best of both worlds. A chypre by classical standards—bergamot up top, jasmine in the heart, and moss and patchouli at the base—it’s what’s been added to the mix that makes it such a unique scent. Heliotrope brings that powdery element, matcha and green clover add something bright and earthy, and musk acts as a skin-enhancer that softens out the entire composition.

Tester feedback from associate beauty director Sarah Kinonen

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“At $310 for 3.4 fluid ounces, this may be one of the most expensive perfumes I've ever owned…and I'm almost halfway through it. It's a light yet warm musk that lingers like a second skin. It reminds me of a super-luxe Glossier You (and I love Glossier You).” —Sarah Kinonen, associate beauty director

    Best Hair Fragrance

    Gisou Honey Infused Hair Perfume

    $44

    Amazon

Why It Won: Gisou Honey Infused Hair Perfume gives us a lovely halo of honeyed sweetness. But this mist is more than just a pretty scent. Infused with honey from the Mirsalehi bee garden in Amsterdam, the formula simultaneously hydrates and smoothes strands with every spritz. And while hair perfumes are typically less concentrated and contain less alcohol (to prevent dryness), our testers appreciated that the scent lingers all day long.

Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This makes my hair smell so scrumptious, masking the fact that I'm three days late to washing it. I can sometimes be sensitive to strong scents, but the honey notes in this mist are just the right amount.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

    Best Body Mist

Associate beauty director Sarah Kinonen applies the Salt & Stone Saffron & Cedar Body Mist.

Why It Won: Saffron & Cedar is one of Salt & Stone's most requested deodorant scents—customers say they love the smell so much they rub the stick on their necks and wrists to cover more surface area with the beachy, woody scent. It was only a matter of time before the brand turned the scent into a body mist that had all our testers spritzing with abandon. For a scent that evokes California beach culture—the heart features a surf-wax accord—it smells incredibly sophisticated, thanks to elevated notes of spicy saffron, intoxicating jasmine, and earthy oakmoss.

Tester feedback from commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann

The perfume oil embraces every sugary, spicy aspect of vanilla, with the star ingredient rendered darker and even more delectable thanks to a generous sprinkling of cardamom, amber, and tonka bean. It’s a big scent that’s best enjoyed up close, as notes of musk and ambrette seed help the creamy, saccharine goodness mingle seamlessly with the smell of your own skin.

    Amazon

Why It Won: With rose, geranium, and moss, the Malin+Goetz Otto Candle smells of a dewy, green garden after the rain rather than a store-bought bouquet sitting atop your kitchen table. As it burns, you can picture the flowers unfurling their petals to the sky and releasing their enchanting essence into the atmosphere, wafting into whatever space you have the pleasure of sitting in.

Tester feedback from associate beauty director Sarah Kinonen

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“The supercandle may be the biggest candle I've ever owned—and surprisingly, the candle I've gone through the quickest. Though it's a floral scent, when it’s lit, you pick up warm notes of cashmere musk, which kept my rose-adverse husband from complaining. In fact, he recently asked for a refill, because as I said, we burned through this one quickly—well, as quickly as you can go through a one-plus-pound candle!” —Sarah Kinonen, associate beauty director

Ccontent director Kara McGrath lights the Nette Laide Tomate Candle.

Why It Won: The bold red jar that houses Nette Laide Tomate Candle may be beautiful to look at, but the soy wax’s heady aroma is actually inspired by the ugliest of fruits on the vine. Based on the notion that the least attractive tomatoes are often the juiciest and most fragrant (laide tomate means ugly tomato in French), Nette accentuated the hero note with basil, violet leaf, and a dab of a tomato-paste accord to achieve the ripest, most hyperrealistic tomato candle you can pluck off the shelf.

Tester feedback from content director Kara McGrath

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“I will never get sick of the savory, fresh scent of this candle. Tomatoes are the only plant I have successfully grown every year since I moved into a house with a garden. How does Allure test perfumes and fragrances for Best of Beauty Scent?

For our Best of Beauty Scent winners, we consider each product's performance across the following categories: longevity, sillage (how far a scent travels), complexity of the notes, packaging, and how the fragrance evolves throughout the day. We test hundreds of perfumes, candles, and home scents across all olfactive categories (gourmand, citrus, etc.). Our editorial team—which is composed of in-house writers, editors, contributors, with special consideration from relevant experts—determines that each winner excels in its category.

Are Best of Beauty Scent winners long-lasting?

Yes. The winning eau de parfums, solid fragrances, perfume oils, and home fragrances are designed to be long-lasting. We evaluate fragrances on their ability to maintain a signature scent without fading or turning, even after hours of wear (for personal fragrances) or hours after being lit or sprayed (for home scents).

Do the Scent winners include clean or skin-friendly formulas?

Several of the winning fragrances—such as the Salt & Stone Saffron & Cedar Body Mist—are marketed as clean or free of common irritants like phthalates or synthetic dyes. We try to note when a formula is designed to be nonirritating or more friendly to sensitive skin, and our testers include those who have fragrance allergies and/or sensitivities.

What types of fragrances are included in the Best of Beauty Awards?

The Best of Beauty Scent winners feature fragrances from every major olfactive category, including floral, herbaceous, woody, earthy, gourmand, citrus, fruity, solar, and musk, in formats from sprays and oils to solids and candles.

How can I find the right fragrance for me on the list of winners?

For each Best of Beauty Scent winner, we include a detailed description of the key notes, scent family, wear profile, and tester feedback to help you decide if that fragrance is something you might enjoy. If unsure, look for terms that match your fragrance preferences, like "warm and spicy,” "sparkly and fresh," or “earthy and herbaceous." Many of the winners also come in discovery sets or travel sizes for easy testing.

They’re the windows to the soul and can sometimes be bigger than our stomachs. You can keep them peeled or cry them out. Our eyes convey our emotions, our inner desires, and alert everyone you stayed up late doomscrolling—again. And now, thanks to the number of makeup launches in recent years, you can dress up this most important feature in every possible way. In fact, there are so many options, your eyes might widen in disbelief every time you want to update your makeup bag. And we get it. When choosing the 22 Eye Makeup winners for the 2025 Allure Best of Beauty Awards, the number of products we had to swipe, blend, smudge, and sketch could feel so overwhelming, it made our eyes water (in some unfortunate cases, not just figuratively).

After all the mascaras, liners, shadows, and brow groomers we tested, we’re confident we’ve narrowed down the best of the best, not just by category, but by subcategory. There’s a mascara that plumps and a mascara that tubes. Shadows that sparkle and shadows that sculpt. We discovered new favorites from go-to brands (we see you, Glossier Boy Brow Arch) and rediscovered some spectacular classics (hi, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner Pencil). We awarded some of the year’s best new launches and honored repeat winners that can’t be beat.

If you’ll allow us one last idiom, these products are truly the apple of our eyes for 2025. And however you want to adorn your lids, brows, or lashes, we’re certain you’ll find something that will be yours, too.

Why It Won: With an hourglass-shaped brush and flexible waxes, the Dior Diorshow Overvolume Mascara produces full, fanned-out lashes. The more coats you add, the more drama you get, all without a single clump, thanks to the rubber bristles that separate individual hairs with the finesse of a fine-tooth comb.

Tester feedback from senior director of audience development Lexi Herrick

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This is an elite mascara! The curve of the wand fits precisely to the shape of my eye and catches every lash with just a few strokes, adding instant length and volume to my naturally short lashes. As a chronic eye-rubber, I need a mascara that stands up to my relentless desire to smear it, and Dior Overvolume certainly does—it's lasting and powerful without clumping or smearing.” —Lexi Herrick, senior director of audience development

Why It Won: You could spend several hours and several hundred dollars on extensions, or you could extend your lashes with the Lancôme Lash Idôle Flutter Extension Lengthening Mascara. The brush is the brand’s teeniest yet, with over 480 tiny bristles to catch and stretch out every itty-bitty lash, while the wax-in-water emulsion keeps lashes supple, so you get the extreme length without the annoying flakes.

Tester feedback from executive beauty director Jenny Bailly

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“My mascara math has long been: length > volume. This new Lancôme formula adds up to the most stretched, silky lashes I’ve been able to create yet. And it won’t budge until I take a makeup remover to it.” —Jenny Bailly, executive beauty director

Content director Kara McGrath applies the Kulfi Badi Lash Mascara.

Why It Won: The Kulfi Badi Lash Mascara is one of those rare formulas that received rave reviews from every single person who tested it—a momentous feat in such a contested category. Like any tubing mascara, Badi Lash wraps lashes in flexible, smudge-proof polymers that darken and lengthen them. Unlike most tubing formulas, these polymers also bulk up individual lashes, giving you a glamorous level of volume that washes right off with warm water when you’re ready to remove it.

Tester feedback from content director Kara McGrath

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This has become one of my go-to mascaras for everyday looks. It adds just a hint of volume, but really shines in the length department: The tapered plastic applicator seems to pull each individual lash out and up, to separate them.” —Kara McGrath, content director

    Best Waterproof Mascara

Why It Won: A three-time Best of Beauty Award winner, the Gen See Spectator Sport Mascara is like the triathlete of waterproof mascaras: It lifts, extends, and endures every sweaty obstacle you put in its way. The reason it continues to lead the pack is the unique powdery formula that goes on dry and weightless, avoiding the usual lash-tugging clumps and washing off effortlessly with any makeup remover.

Tester feedback from contributing writer Sophia Panych

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“This is, hands down, the most comfortable waterproof mascara I’ve ever owned, which is saying something as my eyes tend to find them extremely irritating. The dry formula and caterpillar-like bristles ensure it goes on clump-free, no matter how many coats you apply, and lashes never feel heavy or crispy—quite the opposite. And it really will not budge, through a 90-minute ballet class or a New York City summer heat dome (I put it through both).” —Sophia Panych, contributing writer

    Sephora

Why It Won: A former Best of Beauty winner, YSL Beauty Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara offers smudge-proof, long-lasting hold, powerful pigment, and va–va-voom levels of volume. And it also comes in some really beautiful, eye-enhancing shades that add depth to dark eyes and soft contrast to light ones. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill wimpy tints. Uninhibited Brown, a deep chocolate hue, and Electric Blue, a vivid cobalt, are both richly pigmented and add stand-out color to lashes with just one coat (although we recommend two to three for some real oomph).

Tester feedback from commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“Its thick, almost pasty texture adds so much volume and depth, it's almost comical; I've been interrupted mid-conversation by people asking if my lashes are real when I'm wearing this. The brush is giant, which makes it easy to coat every lash, and even though it's not curved, it magically adds a lifting curl to my lashes that rivals the best eyelash curlers I've tried. I'm a firm believer that wearing brown mascara doesn't mean your lashes shouldn't be dramatic, and this formula delivers mega volume in a more natural shade.” —Sarah Hoffmann, commerce producer

    Amazon

Why It Won: The Clinique High Impact Gel Tech Eyeliner is so dense and creamy, it’s a wonder the brand was able to cram it all into a stick so slim and precise. Its eight shades are made with candelilla and carnauba waxes to give the formula a beautiful glide and an ultra-glossy, gel-like finish, while film-forming polymers and quick-drying emollients lock the pigment in place so it never gets out of line. And like all Clinique makeup, the ingredients have been tested for sensitivity, so you can breathe a sigh of relief that this liner is also easy on the eyes.

Tester Feedback from beauty closet associate Edward Horgan

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

"As someone who fills in their waterlines so often they can do it without a mirror, this eyeliner has become my new go-to. The Black Honey shade gives me the perfect vampy effect to any eye look I want and is great for both filling in my waterlines and buffing out for a more diffused look." —Edward Horgan, beauty closet associate

    Make Up For Ever

Why It Won: Cue the nostalgia for your old-school No. 2s. With its wooden body, the Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencil looks like something you might find in your grade-school pencil case. But now, your canvas isn’t a composition notebook, it’s your face. The liner isn’t meant for only one feature, but we love it most for the eyes. The pigment is soft enough that it doesn’t drag, but not so soft that you can’t create a sharp line. And you have an array of eye-enhancing neutrals to choose from, including the blackest black (Whatever Black), the richest chocolate brown (Limitless Brown, a makeup artist favorite), and the most decadent espresso tone (Dimensional Dark Brown). The range gets extra credit for its white and beige shades that can be used to brighten your waterlines.

Tester feedback from beauty closet associate Edward Horgan

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“My friends may or may not make fun of me for the way I hoard these eyeliners, especially the black shade,” says beauty closet associate Edward Horgan. “I will always reach for these over any other pencil liner because I know I will get the smoothest application and a beautiful, long-lasting finish, no matter which way I choose to wear it.” —Edward Horgan, beauty closet associate

    Amazon

Senior news editor Nicola Dall’Asen applies the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner Pencil.

Why It Won: The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner Pencil does exactly what it says on the tin: The creamy pigment spreads across lids effortlessly and stays there all day if you want it to (although, as beauty editors, we’d like to remind you that, for the love of your skin, don’t go to bed with makeup on). What makes this pencil such a legend, however, is its 45-shade range and five finishes (matte, shimmer, metallic, glitter, and satin) that would make even a jumbo box of Crayola crayons jealous.

Tester feedback from senior news editor Nicola Dall’Asen

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“In my eyes, Urban Decay's 24/7 Pencils are the G.O.A.T. I can always count on them to reach full opacity in a single swipe, set quickly (but with enough leeway for blending if needed), and stay put until it's time for cleansing oil. But the formula’s winningest feature—and I say this as someone who simply does not ‘do’ neutral eye makeup—is the shade range, which aims to be anything but boring with its sparkly jewel tones and bright ROYGBIVs. Even the browns and grays provide a little bit of intrigue with their distinctive smoky quality.” —Nicola Dall'Asen, senior news editor

Why It Won: Whether or not you struggle applying winged liner, the Lisa Eldridge Kitten Flick Liquid Eyeliner will turn anyone into an artist. The sharp, but flexible point allows for drawing fluid, sweeping lines, but also honing in on the tiniest details, like tracing the very inner corners of your lash lines or shaping the upward flick of a cat eye. Then, once you’ve stepped back and admired your work, you can be sure the inky-black pigment won’t budge.

Social media manager Bianca Richards applies the Göt2B’s Glued 2-in-1 Brow and Edge Gel.

Why It Won: There’s no “World’s Strongest Brow Gel” competition, but if there were, we know Göt2B’s Glued 2-in-1 Brow and Edge Gel would take home the title. As a consolation, we’ve honored it with a Best of Beauty win. Housed in a tube that’s significantly bigger than most brow gels, the fatter, curved side of the spoolie brush applies the product and fluffs up brows, while the flat side arranges arches. The clear gel feels silky, not goopy, and holds hairs in place without breaking down into flakes.

Tester feedback from social media manager Bianca Richards

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“One of the very first beauty hacks I adopted—long before the rise of beauty influencers—was using clear mascara as both a brow gel and edge control. As beauty trends evolved (laminated brows, I see you!) and product innovation took off, brands started creating formulas specifically to hold brows in place. The Göt2b Glued 2-in-1 Brow and Edge Gel has been the most effective one I’ve found. It keeps my brows perfectly in place and my edges laid—all without flaking." —Bianca Richards, social media manager

    Amazon

Why It Won: The mousse-like texture of Anastasia Beverly Hills Volumizing Tinted Brow Gel bulks up each individual hair to create the illusion of fuller brows. And while all our testers were awed by the formula’s thickening abilities, it’s the shades that had so many permanently adding this product to their makeup bags, calling out the not-too-dark Blonde hue and the hard-to-find cool-toned browns as especially flattering.

Tester feedback from features director Dianna Singh

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“So many shades of ‘brown' read too red on my complexion, but this brow gel in shade Medium Brown has the perfect cool, taupe-y undertones to complement my dark hair and fair skin. I also love the size and shape of the brush—it’s small enough for detail work, but not so small that it takes forever to coat every hair—and the fact that the formula doesn't get crispy by the end of the day. Can you tell I've been burned before?” —Dianna Singh, features director

Why It Won: Glossier Boy Brow Arch fills in sparse areas with the slimmest point on the planet (by planet, we mean the Allure beauty closet). A pomade in pencil form, the coconut oil-infused formula offers a soft, dimensional finish to keep brows from looking obviously filled—an effect enhanced by the nine natural-looking hues that include Black, Cool Blond, Grey, and Auburn (a shade our redheaded testers particularly appreciated). Look really closely (it’s very small) and you’ll notice the unusually shaped tip. It looks like a slanted micro USB made for Barbie, but allows you to either draw on hair-like strokes or shade in broad gaps.

“Boy Brow Arch has quickly dethroned Boy Brow, the brand’s original gel, as my favorite Glossier brow product. It has a unique slanted applicator that makes drawing in hairs incredibly easy and fast. Oh, and the color doesn’t flake off, even on the sweatiest days.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

    Joey Healy Luxe Brow Powder

    Amazon

Why It Won: We used to watch in amazement as makeup artists would deftly build the most beautiful brows entirely from a palette of powders. It was a technique best left to the pros, we thought—until we discovered Joely Healy Luxe Brow Powder, which is clocking its sixth Best of Beauty Award this year. Available in four natural-looking shades that are neither too red nor too gray, this whisper-soft powder offers a foolproof way to accentuate your arches and create the illusion of fullness without the reality of smudges or streaks.

Tester feedback from executive beauty director Jenny Bailly

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

"I have applied this brow powder every morning with a small, slanted brush since way back in the 2010s; whenever I test another formula, I'm disappointed," says executive beauty director Jenny Bailly. "This stuff lets me build slowly, and the color doesn't change or smudge as the day wears on. Why It Won: Maybelline New York Build-A-Brow 2-in-1 Brow Pen is the precise, dual-ended tool that answers all your brow-grooming needs. On one end, you have a skinny brush tip that lays down sheer, hair-like strokes for a realistic brow-hair effect. On the other end, a clear brow gel sculpts natural hairs into your preferred position. Tester feedback from associate beauty director Sarah Kinonen

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

“At first glance, the Mighty Fine Brow Pen looks intimidating—and like a three-pronged Papermate—but if I, the most unskilled makeup artist on the Allure team, can use it to easily fill in sparse sections with ease (and little mess), there’s no doubt it deserves its ‘winner’ title." —Sarah Kinonen, associate beauty director

Its peptides, biotin, glycerin, and ginseng root extract offer a nourishing defense against breakage and brittleness, reviving the brows of numerous staffers at Allure HQ. It’s a product many of us can’t quit, with this year marking its 13th appearance on this list.

Tester feedback from executive beauty director Jenny Bailly

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

"I graduated from high school in 1994. I think you can imagine what my poor brows endured during that dark, dark decade for the human eyebrow. By the time I arrived at Allure in my 20s, they were still shadows of their former selves. A strict tweezers-off policy certainly helped, but I saw the most improvement after I started using RevitaBrow around the mid-aughts (pretty much as soon as it came out). I've tried other brow conditioners over the years, but always come back to this one and use it consistently every day (which I can't say for many other beauty products)." —Jenny Bailly, executive beauty director

Why It Won: “Comfortable” and “drama” aren’t usually used together in a sentence, especially when talking about false lashes. But with the three different strip lash options in the House of Lashes Iconic line—the Iconic, Iconic Lite, and Iconic Mini—that’s exactly what you get. The slim, bendy band feels weightless and won’t poke into your lash lines (so much so that one of our testers fell asleep in them) while the layers of criss-crossed fibers create a shocking amount of volume and length.

“C'mon, is something really ‘iconic’? Absolutely, when that something is the House of Lashes Iconic line of false eyelashes. Choose the degree of drama you want, whether you're a newbie or an experienced wearer. The bands are flexible, so they're easier to apply than most others, and comfortable for hours and hours of fluttery fabulousness." —Leslie Lipton, senior copy manager

How does Allure test eye makeup products for Best of Beauty?

For winners in our Best of Beauty Eyes category, we consider each product's performance based on ingredients, efficacy, inclusivity, packaging, durability, and user experience (including texture and wear). We test thousands of eye makeup products on a wide range of eye shapes and skin tones, for varied makeup preferences and personal routines. Our large group of testers—editors, top industry professionals, and other experts—wear the products in real-world conditions, during long days, workouts, and in high humidity to evaluate performance, pigment payoff, longevity, and how easy products are to both apply and remove.

Are winners in Best of Beauty Eyes smudge-proof or long-wear?

Yes. In addition to awarding the best waterproof mascara, many of the winning eye makeup products in this category can make waterproof, long-wear, and transfer-resistant claims. There’s a tubing mascara that won’t come off until you wash your face, eye pencils and liquid liners that won’t budge for 24 hours, and shadow sticks and shimmer-flecked powders that glide on and set without fading or creasing. When testing, we specifically look for products that don’t smudge, flake, or break down quickly.

Do the Eyes winners work for sensitive eyes or contact lens wearers?

Several of the Best of Beauty Eyes winners are created specifically with sensitive eyes in mind, like the Clinique High Impact Gel Tech Eyeliner and the Ilia Eye Stylus Shadow Stick. All of the mascaras, liners, and shadows on this list have been tested by contact-wearing editors and experts, all of whom were able to wear the formulas for long stretches of time with zero irritation or flaking—just one of the reasons they are winners in our book.

What kinds of eye makeup products are included in this category?

Best of Beauty Eyes features any product that can be worn on your lids, lashes, and brows in a wide variety of textures to suit any preference or type of eye look. That includes mascara and false lashes (strips and clusters!), eye pencils and felt-tip liners, shadow palettes and multichrome pigments (designed by professional makeup artists), and brow groomers of all kinds, like gels that tame and powders that bulk.

Are there winners that work well for hooded eyes, oily lids, or short lashes?

Yes. We employ a large group of testers to ensure representation across a wide range of ages, eye shapes, skin types, and lash length. When choosing our winners, we make sure to consider how a product performs on people with hooded eyes, short and straight lashes, oily and dry lids, and mature skin. If a product doesn’t work for one of our testers, it doesn’t make the cut.
